Seeking new players
We are actively recruiting and welcome all instruments but in particular:- Strings
- Brass
- Percussion
The age range of players encompasses year 9 school musicians to retired members. We particularly offer the opportunity for school and college players to stretch their playing ability as part of their early musical career.
Each of us has had different reasons to join the orchestra so whatever your interest do come along and find out more:
- seeking new experience whilst studying music at school or college,
- about to leave education and looking for a community orchestra to keep playing,
- used to be part of a group or orchestra and was missing it,
- went to a concert and it reminded me how much I used to enjoy playing,
- children have grown up and have time to get back to my music,
- enjoy the buzz of performing a concert not just practicing at home,
- looking for a new challenge.
Vacant Position - Orchestra Leader
Our leader plays a central role in the musical life of the orchestra and works closely with our conductors on repertoire and intepretation, supporting the development of the string sections and helping inspire all our musicians. We are looking for a violinist with a strong musical background and orchestral experience with good communication and collaborative skills who has an encouraging approach to working with a mixed-ability community orchestra.
We are open to interest from those who are taking their first steps in this role, in the early stage of their musical career as a student, or someone who has been playing for some time but wants to extend their experience.
For whatever reason you would like to join we offer one free term of playing as a welcome to the orchestra.
How to Join
We practice every Wednesday evening 19.30 to 21.30 during school terms at Wooteys Junior School in Alton, Hampshire, and normally play 3 concerts a year locally.
